n spite of its storefront window the length of a city bus, there’s more to Central Bottle Wine + Provisions than meets the eye. Behind that glass is a shop on par with the most sleek and chic of wine boutiques. Channeling the enotecas (Italian for “wine library,” or establishment that lets patrons taste various wines with snacks) of Italy, Central Bottle combines an expansive wine selection and small craft-beer selection with meats and cheeses, international and local. “Ask us about this wine… It’s controversial” tease a handful of signs among the bottles, inviting customers to take advantage of the staff’s wide knowledge.
Central Bottle was founded by four friends—including a restaurant designer, a grill cook, and a former general manager of the late, great East Coast Grill—who vacationed together in Venice and became entranced by the city’s enotecas.
