T
here’s a place where you get to enjoy a soulful meal while giving back to the community. More than just a coffee shop, the Haley House Bakery Café helps the homeless, hungry, and underemployed, including by providing culinary training to low-income staffers. The café is run by Didi Emmons, owner of Veggie Planet in Harvard Square and author of Vegetarian Planet and Entertaining for a Vegetarian Planet. And the food is delicious. With home-cooked soul food including Jamaican jerk chicken, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, and sweet potato mash, plus wraps, soups, and salads, there are plenty of hearty options that will leave you feeling full and satisfied. The produce comes from Haley House’s Noonday Farm and the Food Project in Roxbury and Dorchester. Go on Saturday for breakfast all day long—including grits. Arpie
