O

n Veterans Day we’re supposed to remember the men and women who made possible the country we’re privileged to call home. Here’s an even better way to honor them: Hear firsthand accounts of the War in Vietnam from the veterans who are still with us, and whose story is told in Homecoming: A Soldier’s Story of Loyalty, Courage, and Redemption, by our MySecretMaine colleague David Arenstam. Nominated for the 2017 William E. Colby award for emerging writers of military fiction or nonfiction, the new book is based on the lives of Mainer Russell Warriner, a 68-year-old Vietnam vet, and several of his comrades. It follows American aviators assigned to the Aerial Rocket Artillery in Vietnam, and their life-and-death duty there. Find more information here. And happy Veteran’s Day.
