I
f you think your Boston digs seem small, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet. There’s a four-story house near historic Copp’s Hill Burial Ground in the North End that’s only 10.4 feet at its widest point. The Skinny House is the uncontested narrowest house in the city, built (according to legend) by a Civil War soldier to spoil the view of his brother, who had built a huge house on the plot of land the brothers were supposed to share. (It’s also known as the Spite House.) Vitale
The world’s skinniest house, in Long Beach, California, is 16.4 inches narrower than Boston’s. Five stories tall, built on a 10-foot lot created by accident, it has stairs that have to be descended backward.
