A
lthough the Miracle of Science Bar and Grill near MIT is everything a chemistry student could ask for—Popular Science dubbed it a “top nerd bar” (we kid you not), what with the free WiFi and lab décor—the tasty food, craft beer, and relaxed atmosphere make this spot inviting even to the scientifically inept. Appropriately owned by two smarties from Cape Cod—Matthew Curtis and Chris Lutes, who went to Princeton and Brown, respectively, and who both attended MIT post-grad—this funky watering hole has become the flagship of a fleet of similar Hub hotspots. The selection of traditional American and Middle Eastern inspired upscale pub fare has an emphasis on spicy, but there is no need to ask for a menu; the food selections are written on the wall, Periodic Table of Elements-style. Matthew Curtis and Chris Lutes also own the Middlesex Lounge just a few doors down, Cambridge, 1 in Harvard Square and the Fenway, Audubon Boston, and Tory Row in Harvard Square.
