W
hile serving in Congress from the 11th Massachusetts District beginning in 1946, John F. Kennedy lived in Apartment 36 at the Bellevue Hotel beside the State House, which served as his legal voting address; he never lived in Boston until the congressional seat from the district became open. The building is now condominiums. The bachelor congressman spent Sunday afternoons at Table 18 of the nearby Union Oyster House eating lobster stew and reading the newspapers, a custom memorialized by a small plaque in the booth, where the restaurant installed a telephone for Kennedy’s personal use.
While an upperclassman at Harvard, John F. Kennedy lived in Room F-14 of Winthrop House. The John F. Kennedy School of Government has decorated the room with Kennedy memorabilia and a plaque, and maintains it for the use of guests.
