T
he Druid may be the only pub in town where the Red Sox game is a distraction, but it’s not because the regulars aren’t Sox fans. This genuine Irish pub combines perfect pints (of Guinness or one of the other 10 beers on tap) with traditional tunes and lively conversation to create an atmosphere that fosters good times. When the session starts, eyes turn from the lone flat-screen above the bar to the horseshoe of musicians in the corner booth. Don’t expect a “Molly Malone” sing-along—it’s reels and jigs that you’ll hear. The Druid offers traditional music on Tuesday nights and Saturday afternoons, but impromptu sessions also arise. As for the food here, “pub grub” doesn’t do it justice. The fish and chips is much more fish than batter, and the soda bread is from the owner’s old Irish recipe. It’s not all, traditional, though. Druids were mysterious medieval Celtic priests who apparently practiced human sacrifice and believed in reincarnation. Which, if you think about it, is a reassuring combination.
