H
ere’s a secret you never knew: You can rent a cabin in the wilderness, on the shore of a peaceful pond, just 15 minutes from the city. The Appalachian Mountain Club has 20 cabins for rent that sleep four to six people apiece alongside the 230-acre Ponkapoag Pond in the Blue Hills Reservation. How rustic is it? Well, the bunks have mattresses and wood stoves, but there’s no electricity or running water, and you’ll be doing your business in an outhouse. Oh, and the cabins are available year-round.
The Appalachian Mountain Club has been operating Ponkapoag Camp since 1921.
