A view of Boston you'd never expect

ne of the best views of the Boston skyline is from Hingham, where World’s End rises from a peninsula in Massachusetts Bay. It may sound apocalyptic, but this 280-acre park is one of the best secrets around, with wide, tree-lined carriage paths laid out by landscape architect Frederic Law Olmsted, grassy fields, tiny beaches, and that view. It’s best seen on the Summer Solstice, when all of Hingham takes its beach blankets and picnic baskets to watch the sun set over Boston while listening to live music. But World’s End is a breathtaking place to hike, picnic, or bird-watch any time of year. Warne

World’s End was briefly considered as a site for the United Nations. Later, a nuclear power plant was proposed there. Today it’s protected as part of the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area, but managed by the Trustees of Reservation.
