ason Owens really likes food. That’s what makes his Newton restaurant, the Biltmore, so good. Owens has brought his avocation for the finest things to eat to Southie, where he lives (and where there heretofore hasn’t been much in the way of gourmet grocers), with American Provisions Local Market, which carries farmstead cheeses, John Dewar’s meats, Woodbury’s shellfish, and fresh baked goods in a hip if small space with a trendy vibe. Another secret: Bring your own coffee cup and get it filled for a buck.
The stand-in for the Charlestown criminal underworld headquarters “Town Flowers” in the 2010 film The Town, with Ben Affleck, was Thornton Flower Shop on Dorchester Street in Southie, where the florist scenes were filmed.
