eadhead or not, the Dead Zone will leave you tie-dyed and satisfied. This store, which has sailed under the radar for more than 20 years, is a safe haven for hippies with a love for flowing skirts and groovy accessories—like Grateful Dead tapestries, salt rocks, incense, and glassware and ladies’ scarves bursting with color. It’s not only the ‘60s merchandise that will make you feel like you’ve stumbled into Woodstock, but the peaceful atmosphere of the shop: ask owner Patricia Martin a question, and she’ll converse with you like an old friend. Just don’t be distracted by the Dead tunes playing softly in the background. Just go with it, man. O’Brien
The Grateful Dead played the old Cape Cod Coliseum in South Yarmouth, which also hosted bands including the Clash, the Allman Brothers, Santana, Elvis Costello, Blue Oyster Cult, Kansas, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Pat Benatar, Billy Squier, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Aerosmith, Alice Cooper Kiss, Peter Frampton, the B-52’s, and Van Halen. It’s now a warehouse.
