he secret to a delicious, toe-curlingly sour Venezuelan cocktail called the pisco sour is—mmm!—egg whites. The drink, available at Orinoco, a hidden jewel in Brookline Village (there are other locations in the South End and Harvard Square, but you can’t get pisco sours there, and it isn’t even on the menu at the Brookline Village restaurant, though they’ll usually make one if you ask), also contains lime juice and pisco, a South American grape-based liquor in honor of which both Peru and Chile observe national holidays. You may have to snoop long and hard to find the pisco sour anywhere else. Hoeller

National Pisco Sour Day is the first Saturday of February in Peru and May 15 in Chile.
