A diner with a great brunch, and dinner only once a week

here’s something about a Sunday morning brunch in a hometown spot bustling from wall to wall. But there’s also something different about Rox Diner. Forget the typical greasy, diner food. Here brunch comes served with cage-free eggs from New Hampshire, muffins from Sugar Bakery across the street, bread from Roslindale, and produce from local farmers’ markets. The French toast and from-scratch pancakes are pretty great, too. Piled nearly eight inches high and smothered in real maple syrup, the apple, cinnamon and (unique, delicious, hearty) granola pancakes, or the Health Nut French toast combine flavors and fruits to feed the sweetest sweet tooth. Another secret: Every Thursday is burger night at this breakfast dive. Stop in between 4:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. for humanely raised beef or veggie burgers and milkshakes. (The Newtonville location serves both lunch and dinner every day.) Tebsherany

Roxbury, Jamaica Plain, Roslindale, and West Roxbury all were once a single town called Roxbury, established in 1630. They were later divided up and eventually annexed by Boston.
