Solace in the City

Where to find some peace among the bustle

ot many people would describe a visit to the perpetually busy Prudential Center urban shopping mall/office/hotel/restaurant/bar/convention-center complex as particularly calming. But there’s a secret here: St. Francis Chapel, a surprisingly soundproof oasis tucked between a Dunkin’ Donuts and the entrance to the Hynes Convention Center. A “satellite” shrine of St. Anthony’s on Arch Street in Downtown Crossing, the chapel offers daily Mass and Bible study, and a standing-room-only Spanish-language service. But you don’t have to be Catholic, or go to Mass, to find some rare and welcome mid-city peace and quiet here. Montorio
