Scone Age

A shrine to anglophilia, complete with tea and crumpets

A

downright weird throwback to the days of white gloves and stiff upper lips, the Dunbar Tea Shop is sort of fun when you get used to the idea of having tea and fresh-baked scones with jam and cream in what looks like your grandmother’s parlor. The tiny 1740 house can fit a lot of doily-covered covered tables and carved wooden chairs, and serves up not just imported tea on fancy china, but also dainty finger sandwiches, soups, a ploughman’s lunch of cheddar cheese and salad garnish on warm bread, a smoked Scottish salmon platter, and assorted daily specials. Oh, and crumpets. It’s definitely something different, and if it touches the anglophile in you, there’s a gift store that sells chutneys, British jams, clotted cream, and tea.
