oxy’s Grilled Cheese has parked its truck, and it’s not going anywhere. Don’t tell anyone, but the food truck whose gourmet grilled cheese gained a cult following has spun off a restaurant in Allston. On the menu: the Rookie Melt, the Green Muenster, the Mighty Rib, and other Roxy favorites, along with new additions including the Allston, with goat cheese, fig jam, caramelized onions, and arugula. There are burgers, too, like the Mushroom Burger with Swiss, mushrooms, arugula, and truffle mayo, plus beer (you can’t get that from a truck) and watermelon lemonade. Be sure to ask for Justin’s sauce when you order the hand-cut truffle fries. Leccese
The grilled-cheese sandwich was popularized in America in the 1920s by James L. Kraft as a way of promoting the mechanical bread slicer he’d invented. Kraft later developed a pasteurizing process that led to the questionable American contribution to cuisine that is Kraft cheese.
