ou’ll probably want to get takeout from Mike and Patty’s Neighborhood Sandwich Shop, because most of its small space is taken up by the kitchen (there’s a tiny counter and seating for just six), next to which hangs a blackboard with the menu and pinned-up paper plates with daily specials. But what comes out of that kitchen is worth squeezing in for. The standout is the pork torta (you can also order it with chicken or in a vegan option), or Mexican-style sandwich, which comes with avocado, black bean refritos, jicama slaw, and goat cheese on a seeded roll. It’s the perfect blend of spice and cooling avocado, and big enough for two. Owners Mike Fitzhenry and Patty Sinaiko (they met while working at Formaggio Kitchen) also serve up breakfast all day, and almost everything they make uses locally grown organic ingredients. Horton
The paper cup was invented by Boston lawyer Lawrence Luellen in 1907 to prevent the spread of germs.
