eady, set, go! Looking for some running competition? Head over to Fresh Pond in Cambridge every Saturday morning for an informal race on a circuit through the woods. You can run one, two, three, or four laps (2.5, five, 7.5, or 10 miles). The races are organized but free. Just show up at 10 a.m. behind the water treatment plant. And except for a slightly challenging hill at the end, the path is mostly flat, with pleasant scenery. Jacobson
Boston Marathon sponsor the Boston Athletic Association was established in 1887 “to encourage all manly sports.” It was originally headquartered in a clubhouse at Exeter and Boylston streets, where the Boston Public Library now stands. The lavish clubhouse had a gym, bowling alley, billiard hall, Turkish baths, and tennis courts. It closed in 1936.
