n the mood for homemade, authentic Italian desserts, a hot cup of cappuccino, and a good game of European football? In the North End? Without the lines? The very Italian Caffé Paradiso, just down the road from (but far less well known than) the famous Mike’s and the always-busy Modern Pastry, offers homemade gelato in an ever-changing variety of flavors such the house-created zuppa Inglese (a custard-based dessert) and an award-winning cappuccino, plus different-flavored cheesecakes served in huge, delicious slices. But the best of many secrets here is the homemade tiramisu, the classic Italian dessert whose name translates to “pick me up.” While a coffee aficionado may try one of Paradiso’s international coffees, such as the Italian espresso, a wine/brandy bravura may go with francesca hazelnut and hennessy, and enjoy the authentic atmosphere, soccer and all. It might as well be Roma. Especially because it’s open till 2 a.m. Tebsherany

Think Caffé Paradiso is narrow? Check out the city’s skinniest house, just 10 feet wide, around the corner in the North End.
