unning on a treadmill might keep you in shape, but in no way does it compare to the experience of taking a West African dance class to the sound of live drumming. The music pounds, the energy is high, and there’s the spice of culture from Senegal, Mali, and the rest of western Africa. It’s only one of many styles of dance offered seven days a week at the Dance Complex, from Haitian folk to Irish step and ballet, to hip-hop and jazz funk, taught by 60 instructors from 20 countries. The Dance Complex also offers free classes twice a year. Keep an eye on the website for dates. Arpie
