asho ain’t your average sushi bar. It’s a Japanese bistro, with a design that’s hip and Zen (bamboo decor, modern tables, high banquettes, oak floor), 3D art behind the sushi chefs, creative entrees, unique desserts including banana tempura (a great light sweet to follow fish), three different types of edamame (regular, peppered-garlic, and curry), and not only Japanese sake and beer, but also wine. (The name is Japanese for “place where things happen.”) The secret? Well, what we know (and most Basho patrons don’t) is the that apps are $5 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. to closing, and you can get a free Red Sox roll during any of the team’s home games. Much of the wasabi sold in the United States is grown not in Japan, but in North Carolina.
