he cozy atmosphere of Thinking Cup creates a sense of comfort and home in the middle of the city. On top of fresh-baked pastries, breads,, and even chocolate mousse cakes, cheesecake, cupcakes, and cannolis, the café exclusively serves Stumptown Coffee, which originated in Portland, Oregon, and is brought in straight from the company’s East Coast roasting facility in Brooklyn. If you’re not a coffee drinker, try the French hot chocolate, an even richer alternative to the traditional made with 70 percent dark chocolate. Then take a walk around and check out the artwork. Scenes of Boston over the years adorn the walls, while vintage copies of local newspapers—some of them defunct, like the Boston Post—lay beneath the thick glass tabletops. The Thinking Cup practices the art of the pour-over—slowly pouring hot water over pulverized coffee grounds and then straining the coffee through a paper filter straight into your cup—for an unusually rich coffee flavor.
