losely associated with the island in particular and New England in general through images that capture its natural beauty, star Vineyard photographer Alison Shaw now has a studio and gallery in an impeccably restored former single-engine fire station on a back road. You’ll find her work downstairs and, often, the artist herself upstairs in her studio; she’s usually glad to show you around. The works on display change weekly based on colors (orange, say, or blue) and other themes (food, for instance), and there are also affordable books, notecards, and posters for sale.
The Alison Shaw Gallery anchors a hidden-away, embryonic arts district that includes jewelry shops and the Periwinkle Studios, a converted fish market that specializes in fabric art.
