ometimes all you need in life is a little bit of quirkiness, and 40 South Street provides exactly that. Yeah, 40 South Street is both the name and the address of this vintage clothing shop, which at least will help you to remember where it is. That wasn’t always its name; the shop used to be called Gumshoe. It also used to sell only men’s used clothing, but with renovations it has added women’s duds including sweaters, jeans, buttoned shirts, and cute dresses. The offbeat décor and old-fashioned style makes you feel like you’ve found a hidden gem. Which we’re pretty sure you will. Thornton
In a city of colorful politicians, James Michael Curley was the most colorful, winning a term as mayor even while under indictment for mail fraud. The house that Curley built for himself is at 350 the Jamaicaway in JP. You’ll recognize it by the shamrocks.
