edged between a laundromat and real estate office, Tatte Patisserie and Café’s flagship location is easy to miss. And its hazelnut rose may at first glance seem like the mass-produced cinnamon buns you buy at the food court. But don’t be fooled: Stuffed and swirled with a chocolate hazelnut cream, this scrumptious pastry is more a box than a bun, filled with whole, large toasted hazelnuts. The treats in these shops, owned by Israeli baker Tzurit Or, are good enough that they’re stocked in the SoHo branch of the Dean & DeLuca gourmet store chain. Kutz
