- MARTHA’S VINEYARD
ix makes old stuff cool. A fun aggregation of vintage kitsch and modern gifts, this funky boutique is in an island class by itself, with antique dial phones, typewriters, posters, signs—even the Golden Books you remember reading as a child. And if nostalgia doesn’t do it for you, there’s hip new wares like candy-colored porcelain tableware and eco totes made from recycled Cambodian rice sacks, plus vintage women’s and new children’s clothes and housewares.
In 1977, Martha’s Vineyard residents considered seceding from the state, having been threatened with a loss of their seat in the Legislature. They were invited to join landlocked Vermont before the rebellion petered out.
