I

f you’ve been inside the Wang Theatre at the Citi Performing Arts Center, you have no doubt been impressed. Opened in 1925 as the Metropolitan, it was modeled on a Louis XIV palace by designer Clarence Blackall, who also was the architect of the Copley Plaza Hotel. And here’s the surprise: It was built not to stage live dramas, but to show movies. There was a time when movie theaters were as much about the setting as they were about what was projected on their screens. But now, it’s all about providing its customers with the utmost entertainment by streaming films through a digital cinema package to keep them going back for more. So skip the megaplex and stick with us for some great places to see movies, where the experience is as important as the film.
