heap and plentiful parking on Newbury Street? Yup. Just don’t tell anybody. There are almost always metered spaces open on the decidedly downscale last block of Newbury, the one at the far west end across Mass. Ave. And it’s free after 8 p.m. (Be careful: some other Back Bay meters turn into resident-only parking after 8 p.m.) The only time you probably won’t find a space here is on Red Sox game nights. This is one secret Red Sox fans figured out before anybody else did—and that they don’t go around crowing about.
Newbury Street is named for, of all things, the victory of the Puritans in the 1643 Battle of Newbury of the English Civil War.
