t’s chic, it’s homey, it’s delicious, and it wants to make a difference. The Ashmont Grill offers a relatively cheap and diverse menu with everything from its orecchiette—spicy pork sausage with tomato, Tuscan kale, and shaved ricotta cheese—to a hot dog and French fries, plus just as much variety in between (try the Righteous Turkey Burger with hints of avocado and cranberry). Some of the proceeds goes to local causes. There’s also an S-shaped bar that serves up cocktails like the Saint Ashmont or Dixieland Tea, plus a long beer list and an outdoor patio with hardwood fire pit. Ashmont was named for a Neponset Indian. For much of its history it was sparsely settled, including by the Welles family, after whom the town of Wellesley was later named.
