any so-called Irish pubs on Cape Cod are pale imitators of the real things. Not Flynn’s. You can tell by the sound of live Irish music that you’ll hear before you’re even through the door, the taste of Irish food inside, and the overwhelming selection of 42 beers on tap, the largest selection on the Cape (though curiously, not including Guinness). The thing that’s harder to quantify is the atmosphere, but you can actually see that, too. It’s underneath the specials, in the blackboard. “We serve nice people only,” it says. O’Brien
The Sagamore Bridge was built during the Depression as a project of the Public Works Administration. It replaced a smaller bridge about half a mile east, which connected Gibbs Road on one side of the Cape Cod Canal with Pleasant Street on the other; you can still see the original abutment on Pleasant Street, which now has a house on top of it.
