here’s something cool and refreshing in Cotuit Bay in the summer. And we’re not just talking about the ocean. Thanks to Sandwich native Payson Titcomb’s little-known and unusual offshore business, boaters don’t have to pull to shore for a treat. Instead, they wait to hear the ring of a bell, and wave over the Ice Cream Boat—a Titcomb family-run business that travels to small islands off the Cape, and serves other boats in the bay. Can’t find it? Call the number and they’ll come to you. (We want that job!) O’Brien
Managed by the Massachusetts Audubon Society, Sampsons Island is a bird-watcher’s paradise, with terns, piping plovers, egrets, herons, and gulls, and a good place for a hike or picnic.
