intage gurus and fashionistas alike will find a great selection of retro jewelry at Twentieth Century Limited—once they find the shop itself, that is. Started by jewelry aficionado Paul Turnberg more than 30 years ago, and named for the streamlined transcontinental train that epitomized art deco, this subterranean jewelry mecca is home to a collection ranging from bakelite to art deco and 1940s and 1950s tiaras to sterling silver from designers including Hattie Carnegie, Miriam Haskell, and Eisenberg. Another great secret: There’s a bargain bin. And just beyond the main room is a trove of paintings, prints and photographs including rare paint-by-number nudes from the 1940s and 1950s. Carriero
