orn in Lubbock, Texas, Ryan Miller became a Boston boy—well, Medford and Somerville, anyway—when he showed up at Tufts as a religious studies major. It was during freshman orientation there that he met Adam Gardner and Brian Rosenworcel, and together the three formed a band they named Gus and started performing and recording while still in college. When it turned out another musician also called himself Gus, they (joined now by Joe Pisapia) changed the name to Guster and began to rack up awards—album of the year at the Boston Music Awards, 25 on the Billboard 200 for their second album, Ganging Up on the Sun, soundtrack spots in the movies Martian Child, The Wedding Crashers, and Disturbia and the television show The OC.
