harlies Kitchen is more of a landmark than a secret. But we still know something about it most people don’t: In a former driveway alongside, hidden behind a side door only the regulars can find without asking, is Harvard Square’s only beer garden (and one of the few in greater Boston), open when the weather’s nice, with a separate bar, tables, and food. Okay, it’s tightly packed, the menu is the same as the rest of dive-y Charlies, and the service is slow, but the beer, the fresh air, and the company of hipsters more than compensate.
Charlies Kitchen opened in 1951.
