Chocolate-covered bacon, and other comfort fare

T

he retro sign advertising “Air Conditioning, Cocktails, and Food” might put off the unadventurous, but the rest of us will love the vintage southern-inspired comfort fare and fun at Trina’s Starlite Lounge. Then there’s the Monday brunch, which will start your week off right. It’s meant for restaurant workers who spent their weekends on their feet, but everyone’s invited for a Starlite bloody Mary and a Velvet Elvis French toast sandwich filled with banana, peanut butter, and chocolate-covered bacon with a homemade Pop Tart for dessert. It’s all part of a daily menu that includes the southern staple of waffles and fried chicken, gravy fries, corn dogs, chili, and other delicious throwbacks. There are also great cocktails mixed by knowledgeable bartenders, cheap beer, and food service till midnight. Carriero

Inman Square is named for 18th-century merchant Ralph Inman, who tried to stay neutral in the Revolutionary War but fled—leaving his wife behind—when their son joined the British Army. Inman’s wife also was a businesswoman who owned a warehouse British troops used as the barracks from which they marched on Lexington and Concord.
