Fore Father

A museum about the pioneer of American golf

forefather

T

he father of American golf, Francis Ouimet was a 20-year-old caddy at the Brookline Country Club who won the 1913 U.S. Open, ending British dominance of golf and opening the game to the American middle class.

The Massachusetts Golf House and Museum have his jacket, medals, clubs, and other items. Just like with anything, for some people, learning new skills and improving your game may take some time.

With that being said, it is not impossible to be on the same levels as professionals like Francis Quimet. Some people may even decide to check out sites like https://shopindoorgolf.com/pages/best-golf-launch-monitors-2019, in the hopes of finding a way to improve their golf playing skills. Practice makes perfect as they say.

In 1916, Francis Ouimet was stripped of his amateur status by the U.S. Golf Association, which claimed he was using his celebrity to promote his business selling sporting goods and therefore was making a living from golf.

His status was reinstated thanks to public pressure after he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1918.
