Boston’s movie magic unmasked

M

ore movies and TV shows than ever are being shot in Boston, though most of us never get to see them filmed. Yet there’s a way to zoom in on the celluloid secrets. Boston TV and Movie Sites Tours focuses on behind-the-scenes trivia, hidden-away locations, and surprises (that, for instance, a lot of entertainment set in Boston wasn’t actually filmed here) of the Hollywood set, from Glory (the Boston scenes were actually filmed in Savannah) to Good Will Hunting (filmed half in Boston and half in Toronto), from Legally Blonde (set at Harvard but shot in Pasadena, since Harvard does not allow filming on its campus) to School Ties (filmed at the Middlesex School in Concord), from Celtic Pride to The Witches of Eastwick (“Eastwick” is Cohasset, where the blockbuster starring Jack Nicholson and Cher was filmed) to Ted and The Heat. More of a TV fan? See the building where Ally McBeal practiced law. You’ll also find familiar places you didn’t know were backdrops for the classics. Unlike the local megaplex, though, these tours require that you order tickets in advance. Jacobson
