f the sound of tunes drifting down lower Main Street from the piano bar doesn’t draw you into the Club Car, then its Maryland Crab Cake Club Car should. Unlike most crab cakes, the car’s French-influenced version is pure shrimp moussealine (meaning there is no filler or breadcrumbs) with folded-in jumbo-lump crab, scallions, and seasoning, swimming in a sea of Beurre blanc Dijon sauce. When you dine at this Nantucket landmark, you are also taking a bite out of history; the Pullman coach (which houses the lounge and piano bar) is the only remaining vestige of the island’s late-19th-century railroad line. The Nantucket Railroad was a narrow-gauge line built in 1881 to that connect Nantucket Town with Siasconset. It closed in 1917 and the track and engines were shipped to Europe to during World War I. The lone Pullman coach that is now the Club Car stayed behind and was turned into a diner. The original station is now the Maria Mitchell Aquarium.
