et you didn’t think you could start your day with two of your favorite things. But, yeah, you can. The nondescript and hard-to-find Zinneken’s waffles (“made by actual Belgians”) serves up sugary Liège and traditional Belgian waffles with a scoop of ice cream. Not enough? There’s also whipped cream, nutella, and all kinds of fruit toppings. It’s like having dessert for breakfast! Got the munchies? Zinneken’s is open till midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. As for the name of this place, it’s a nod to multiculturalism, deriving from the word for mixed-breed dogs that live around the Zenne River.
There are 361,667 Belgians in America, according to the Census Bureau. The largest number live in Wisconsin.
