A local bookstore in all the meanings of the word

hen Porter Square Books describes itself as a local bookstore, it doesn’t just mean that in the sense of not being Barnes & Noble. It means that it’s all about local books by local authors who come for frequent readings. And that’s saying something in cerebral Cambridge. Even every single thing at the in-store Café Zing is from a local business. And speaking of those big box stores, Porter Square Books can get you special orders faster. The community feel is also reflected in the thoughtfully curated selection and knowledgeable (this is brainy Cambridge, after all) personal service. Goldberg

The Porter Square Book Club meets twice a month, on a Sunday at 11 a.m. and the following day at 4 p.m. Led by a retired English teacher and copy editor, it’s free, though you’ll clearly have to mind your grammar. Find the schedule and reading list here.
