Ex Rev Taylor Twellman kicks around some secrets.

ot even the neck injury that kept him largely off the pitch for a season did anything to dent former New England Revolution standout-turned-TV soccer analyst Taylor Twellman’s status as fan favorite. A league MVP and one of the highest scorers in Major League Soccer history, Twellman lettered in high school in not only soccer, but also football, basketball, and baseball, all while chalking up a 3.5 GPA. (It runs in the family; his father, Tim, played in the North American Soccer League and his grandfather is former Major League Baseball player Jim Delsing, who played for the White Sox, the Yankees, and others.) Offered a contract by the Kansas City Royals, Twellman opted for the glamor and high visibility of American soccer, signing with New England in 2007. That year he finished third in the league in goals scored, including a bicycle kick to push the Revs past the Chicago Fire for the Eastern Conference. Man about town Twellman tells us where he spends his off-the-pitch time. Duran

1

Commonwealth Avenue, especially on a winter night when all the lights are up and on. I walk my dogs down the mall and feel like Frank Sinatra.

2

Fenway Park. This really isn’t a secret, but it’s baseball’s Mecca. My grandfather, Jim Delsing, played there in the late ’40s and early ’50s, so it has a special place in my heart.

3

People-watching on Newbury Street on the first summery day after a winter of cabin fever.

4

National Jean Company in Newton. I go there to pick up Hudson jeans.

5

Pregame drinks at Sonsie. The place has great people and great ambience.

6

The Liberty Hotel, for fashion shows. They give Boston a small taste of a really big city, like New York.

7

Children’s Hospital, to have some fun with the kiddies. They make my day every single time I visit them.

8

Patriot Place after a game or for sports-watching. It’s kind of like Disneyland for sport fans.

9

Golfing at Charter Oak Country Club. It’s a awesome place for a great, quiet round of golf with my boys.

10

The New England Revolution. My heart and soul lie with them.
