Stage star Kerry O'Malley's Boston secrets

Kerry Headshot 4

K

erry O’Malley is the queen of the revival, having starred since leaving Harvard’s Institute for Advanced Theater Training in Irving Berlin’s White Christmas on Broadway in the role originated by Rosemary Clooney in the classic film. A Boston sports fanatic and the sister of Boston comedian and Glee dad Mike O’Malley, she also was the Baker’s Wife in the revival of Into the Woods and starred opposite Harry Connick, Jr. in the update of On A Clear Day You Can See Forever. O’Malley played Mary-Kate on three seasons of Showtime’s Brotherhood and has guest-starred on Masters of Sex, Boardwalk Empire, The Mentalist, Bones, Cold Case, King of Queens, My Name is Earl, and most of the Law & Order franchise, and appeared in films including Case 39, M. Night Shyamalan’s The Happening, and more. Cue curtain: Here are Kerry O’Malley’s Boston secrets.

1

Fenway Park. Hands down, my favorite place on earth. And make sure you shop at the Yawkey Way Store, which, for me, is like being a kid in a candy shop. They have everything a Red Sox fan could want. And I want all of it.

2

The Boston Sports Museum is pretty spectacular. And if you can swing tickets to a Bruins or Celtics game, even better.

3

The Christian Science Mother Church, which is so beautiful. The whole complex is stunning: The Mary Baker Eddy Library for the Betterment of Humanity is worth a long visit, the tour is great, and the Mapparium is a must see.

4

The Public Garden, especially to visit the Make Way for Ducklings statue and for a ride on the swan boats. There are also some great sculptures there. I am particularly drawn to the George Washington one and the one dedicated to the discovery of ether.

5

Commonwealth Shakespeare Company’s Shakespeare on the Common. Terrific work by a terrific company every summer.

6

The Intermission Tavern on Tremont in the Theater District. Fantastic warm, cozy pub with delicious food. Publican Michael Connors is the best.

7

Stella on Washington has wonderful atmosphere and delicious food. The linguine is amazing.

8

The Freedom Trail is awesome. Every stop is worth making. Give yourself plenty of time. I am one of those people who wants to read every plaque.

9

The Boston Public Library, especially for the McKim architecture and the John Singer Sargent murals.

10

The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. Beautiful building, wonderful collection. And the MFA is right next door.
