f you had to describe the architecture of Cape Cod Community College, you might call it “academic modern.” In short, the campus looks little like the rest of Cape Cod. But there’s a surprise in this holdover from the 1970s: The Nickerson Room hides treasures of Cape Cod history, including original logs of whaling ships, diaries of Cape Codders from the earliest days, vintage aerial photos of the Cape’s changing geography, and an outstanding collection of scrimshaw, including ships carved from whale bone.

The Nickerson Room is named in memory of William Brewster Nickerson, a young U.S Navy Pilot and the son of the college’s onetime president, who was killed over Vietnam in 1966.
