agle’s Deli is named for its proximity to Boston College, home of the Eagles—and definitely not because you should expect to eat like a bird while you’re here. In addition to its cheap breakfasts, Eagle’s serves up impressively sized burgers, seven days a week, plus everything from chili cheese fries to tuna-melt sandwiches, with a variety of carefully named burger challenges: the half-pound King Kong, the Godzilla, the two-pound Cow-a-Bunga, and the biggest of all, the Eagle’s Challenge. That’s five pounds of burger, 20 pieces of bacon, 20 pieces of American cheese, five pounds of fries, one deli pickle, and a fountain soda. Montorio
The first person to finish a five-pound Eagle’s Challenge burger at Eagle’s Deli, with sides, was a woman, who accomplished the feat on August 30, 2009, but asked that the restaurant not disclose her name. We’re sure she put it on her resumé, however.
