- CAPE COD
- MARTHA’S VINEYARD
therwise available only by mail order and from such high-end retailers as Orvis, the trendy Cape Cod Beach Chair is on sale just for you at the company’s own and only outlet store in a onetime barn hidden on the Eastham-Chatham line. Made in Harwich of heavyweight fabrics with six recline positions, strategically situated padding, and cupholders, these ain’t the beach chairs from the box stores. They’re the ones the likes of Justin Timberlake, Ellen DeGeneres, and Sammy Hagar hang in. There’s also an adventure division of the company, housed in the same barn, called Adventure Chatham, which rents bicycles, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards, and which also occasionally puts its rental equipment up for sale at deep discounts.
So many shipwrecks took place off Cape Cod in the 1800s that residents made decent livings combing the beaches to salvage and sell the wreckage and lost cargo.
