With a bimonthly rotation of work from more than 150 artists, many of them local, the modest 13Forest Gallery nonetheless makes art accessible, with helpful experts who won’t talk down to you, including the owner, Marc Gurton, who can tell you everything you need to know about any piece and its creator. It’s also the only place off Cape Cod where you can find Jobi Pottery, along with other crafts, gifts, and jewelry. Another secret: There’s a frequent-buyer discount program. Goldberg

Arlington’s Capitol Square is named for the Capitol Theatre, sister to the Somerville Theatre, which opened on November 25, 1925 with a mural above the proscenium arch that included the town seal. It was renovated in 2010.
