t’s summertime and the livin’ is starting to get easy. Now some of our favorite pastimes are seeing the light of day. BBQ, beer, and outdoor live music top our list. For the past few summer seasons we’ve gotten to enjoy one of summer’s best kept local secrets. We figured we’d share the wealth and let you know about it because that’s what we live for here at MSB.

The Riverside BBQ Series takes over a sweet boathouse in Brighton, targeting a handful of lazy Sundays each summer. The deal is downright unbeatable. At only $35, all-in tickets will score you grub from some of the best restaurants around the Boston area, beer from local brewers, homegrown ice cream, and, of course, live music and performers. It’s a one-stop shop for the best of Sunday-funday action.

Session 1 is Sunday (June 22) and starts at 4 p.m. The menu will feature food curated by The Independent, Union Square, Somerville’s go-to pub for all the creature comforts, and Abigail’s, a nicely polished spot in Kendall Square that slings an eclectic menu of inspired American fare. For dessert, Scoopsies will offer a collection of delicious ice cream flavors.

Update: The Riverside BBQ Series has released its menu for Session 1 on its Facebook page. The post reads: “Session 1 Menu: Sunday, June 22 – From The Independent: Pulled pork tacos w/ chipotle slaw & mac ‘n’ cheese. From Abigail’s Restaurant: Strawberry BBQ wings, spicy cole slaw, & potato salad with smoked bacon.” Nom nom nom!

Six New England brewers have signed on: Narragansett, Notch, Cisco, Rising Tide, Harpoon, and Peak Organic, offering up multiple styles.

The live music adds even more spice to the menu. Funk, soul, folk/Americana, and Irish rock all fit the bill.

Funk-fueled headliners, the Nephrok! Allstars, have had a blistering year, organically clawing at the local music scene with two well-juiced residencies, Wednesdays at Bull McCabe’s and Sundays at Wally’s Cafe. On top of that, they shared the stage with George Clinton and P. Funk at the House of Blues. A stamp of approval straight from the mother ship? Hot damn!

Paddy Saul, one Boston’s hardest-working Irish musicians, will bring some high-spirited rock in the opening slot.

Back for a second Riverside BBQ season, the Solstice Circus mixes aerial performing arts and playful personalities with a troupe of well-seasoned musicians and night owls. It’s an alternative circus for alternative venues, and the boathouse is definitely one of those.

Speaking of the boathouse, the Riverside BBQ series takes place (rain or shine) at the Harry Parker Boathouse in Brighton. The official address is 20 Nonantum Rd., but you can find it easily if you head west along the Brighton side of the Charles past the Soldiers Field Road/North Beacon Street intersection. The Harry Parker Boathouse is also on the Charles River bike path.

All-inclusive tickets for Session 1 of the Riverside BBQ Series (Sunday, June 22) are $35 in advance and available now at www.riversidebbqseries.com.
